My Backpack Tech Stack, Tools, Books, and Things I Have On Me At All Times

The backpack I use is a Mark Ryden business backpack that I bought from Amazon. It is big enough to fully pack up with gear on the go but also looks sleek and modern when not packed to the brim. This backpack so far has held up for about with daily commutes to work and light travel around the U.S.

Until this backpack falls apart I’ll be rocking it because it really does suit my needs.

Mobile Internet Setup

Why would one need a travel router? Do you share your mobile phone’s wifi with friends and family when on trips? Do you take your gaming laptop wherever you go? Do you work from home and travel while working online?

The fact is you’ll always need an internet connection with you at all times. Our phones do a great job of that but what if you are an internet power user. More specifically what if you don’t like using wireless internet connections because it’s security is inherently weak?

I introduce to you the GL.iNet GL-MT1300 Gigabit Wireless Router. I carry this travel router everywhere I go for one reason only. I myself being in cybersecurity know how easy it is to eavesdrop and perform man in the middle attacks using Wifi. Due to that fact, the main purpose of this travel router for myself is to have an ethernet LAN connection wherever I go.

Pair the travel router with a retractable ethernet cable and you’re ready to game or work securely using this travel router and it’s LAN ports.

Now a big reason I like this travel router is the fact that my phone’s usb tethering capability works out of the box with it.When wanting to share internet on the go I do two things. Turn on USB tethering on my iPhone and plug it into the USB port of the Glinet router. I then have internet passing through my phone’s cellular data to anything that connects to the router.

Smart Plugs for Home Automation

Below are the smart plugs I use for home automation. They are Sonoff S31 smart plugs. The reason I use these is because you can flash them with custom firmware that is open source. I use Tasmota on these plugs and they work amazing for what I need them to do.
